Spanish Skit
The purpose of this project was to create a skit about travel in a foreign country. This being Spanish class, it was a Spanish-speaking country. My group chose Spain. With this starting base, the next step was to research iconic cultural aspects of traveling to said country, and ideally a specific town in said country. My group went with Madrid. Now that all of these cultural icons were present, the next step was to write a humorous and engaging skit about traveling in that country. After going over it to make sure that the Spanish wasn't horribly misspelled and misspoken, I underwent the task of memorizing my lines. This went better than I expected, and when it came time to present the skit, I was able to act in my role confidently, and stay in character without losing track of my lines.
This project had a few benefits for me. Firstly, the necessity of speaking Spanish, on a stage, in front of people, created a sort of high-pressure front, which is something new in my Spanish experience. Normally, I just have to talk to one person at a time. Performing in Spanish was a new and beneficial experience. It also allowed me a better understanding of sentence construction in Spanish, how to communicate without coming across as stilted or verbose and pompous. With those gains, I thoroughly enjoyed the project.
