Día de los Muertos
This is the Día de los Muertos project. We discussed various traditions over the course of the project, ending in creation of a sculpture and a poem. The sculpture is pictured to the left, and the poem is at the bottom of this huge block o' text.
This project taught me a great deal about how cultures tend to influence one another, no matter how they meet. I was interested by the view on death held, that, "Yes, they are dead, but we can still remember and celebrate them. This gave the exhibition sort of a vibrant feel, and I liked having the opportunity to practice reciting my poem. I really enjoyed my poem's construction, as I feel writing is an excellent way to express your emotions. I would have made my sculpture a bit more skeletal, as it ended up a bit lumpy. All things considered, I am very pleased with the end results of my project. It seems like a good way to remember the deceased, and I enjoyed the opportunity to hone my Spanish skills. Translation below the actual poem. Se llama Anthony. Él es vendedor grande, con ojos amables. Él es residente del mundo. Hermano del desierto, amigo de la risa, hijo de mi tocayo. A él le gusta echar una mano. A él le fascina la fotografia. Él mira las dunas por un buen rato. Él necesita una bicicleta urgentemente. Él escucha el viento de los cañones. Él desea aventurar en el extranjero. Él sueña con viajar. Él va a manejar. His name is Anthony. He is a big salesman, with friendly eyes. He is a resident of the world. Brother of the desert, friend of laughter, son of my namesake. He likes lending a hand. He is fascinated by photography. He watches sand dunes for a long time. He needs a bicycle, desperately. He listens to the canyon wind. He desires adventure abroad. He dreams of travel, and is going to ride. |
