Why Animas?
Hey! The column to the right was my response to that question freshman year. This column is my current (As of Junior Year) answer. At Animas, I've done things that I never would have expected. I've turned a semi-joking thesis into a serious discussion of issues within our society today, as shown in my Morality and Politics of Justice Project, which can be found in Junior Year. I've engaged in a LINK internship, which has given me a valuable perspective on the real world. I've been given the tools to explore my philosophy and who I will ultimately be as a human being, and the tools to refine that person. That's why I chose Animas.

I went to Animas for several reasons. First and foremost among these is the concept of project-based learning. Basically, what that means is that rather then studying and cramming information into your brain for a test, you learn in accordance to what the project set for you is. You figure out what is needed for the project and you study it. Second among these it is smaller than the alternative here of Durango High School. I find it difficult to focus amongst large groups of people individually. Also, the teacher can work with students on a one-to-one basis this way, and that causes some pretty strong bonds to form in our little community. This community makes education a more meaningful experience, and the methods used for teaching prepare you for real life.
