Identity (Mask) Project
1. Now that you have finished your first project, how is Project Based Learning (PBL) different from or similar to what you have experienced before? Give at least 3 specific ways it is similar or different.
It is similar in that we have a very large item that we do, and have to get it done on our own without our teachers telling us exactly what to do. It is dissimilar in that we have to wear ties, slacks, and fancy shoes. And it is similar in it is sort of a hands on thing, that we have to just keep going for the time limit, nonstop, never really not presenting.
2. Which habit of heart and mind do you need to work on in your next project to get better at Project Based Learning? Why do you need to improve and how that Habit of Heart and Mind
will help you?
Advocacy. My mask would likely be a lot spiffier if I had called myself on the quality and tried to remold it sooner. In the future, if I need to change something, I will not be bashful about requesting the resources.I'll be able to use this in the future for allowing me to talk to someone whenever I feel there's an issue. I will be able to speak for me.
3. What are you most proud of about your mask? Why?
The various inspirations for talking points it gave me on the fly. Specifically, if talking about my outlook, being able to mention how teenagers are not black and white, but everything is in shades of gray. I am proud of this because it made my presentations a bit more unique.
4. Quote the section of your essay that you are most proud of and describe, in detail, why you
are proud of it.
"They are amongst us already. They are unpredictable, reckless, and overwhelmed by their own hormonal changes. They are, we are, teens. Sadly this comes with a certain stigma, a series of generalizations that foster mistrust of teenagers. Please join me on a journey of sight, a journey of sound, a journey of consciousness. Welcome to the teenage zone." It gives me the opportunity to reference The Twilight Zone, in that studying socialization really is a descent into the dark corners of the subconscious. It sort of comes across to me as a theme for the whole essay, as we just delve into what makes us human. Our only hope is that there's a twist ending, given what I've seen thus far.
5. What do you want to take with you and remember from this project?
The fact that self-reflection can help explain a rather impersonal concept. For instance, looking to myself to answer how a culture creates it's norms. Going inside one person to see how entire societies function, was a rather disproportionate (at least I thought it was at first) method of going in there and looking at a large abstract concept. Looking inside myself to figure out something that apparently has little to do with me can be surprisingly educational.
