Reflection
The purpose of this project was to explore the difficult topic of our energy production, and how it affects our environment, and the effects on us. We discussed different approaches to wilderness, from conservation to preservation, and how we can find value in wilderness. We read about the oil boom, and the results of fracking, both economic and otherwise. We read the works of Edward Abbey and Aldo Leopold. And finally, we wrote a paper about our perspective.
Communicating my perspective on this paper was difficult, as I tend to avoid making definitive statements. For instance, the previous sentence contains- well, you get the idea. It took some refinement and consideration, of all the places I've been and wanted to go. Then I caught it, the thing that ties them all together: the road. This allowed me to understand a bit more about myself as an individual, that my ideal life is not static, but a state of constant flux. My greatest strength in this essay was my ability to create imagery that matched what I wanted to communicate. Transporting the reader into the world that I was trying to describe, illustrating my thoughts, is something I struggle with, as I tend towards concise and efficient descriptions. The more prosaic style that you can see in this essay is something that I am very fond of. I feel it reflects my early readership of Edward Abbey, and the works of my godfather, who is omnipresent on this website, and my thoughts. |
